“The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.” -Psalms 90:10, King James Version
There is an African proverb that has been translated as “When an elder dies, a library burns to the ground.” This ongoing project is our community archive of elder oral histories. It is our effort to preserve a library. The project’s title is inspired by not only the Biblical scripture, but the faith of the elders that fortify their lives. Through Three Score & Ten, we hear stories and reflection from those who have arrived at 70 years of age and beyond.
This is an ongoing project. We appreciate your patience as we continue to work on best access to audio, providing notes and other elements that enhance our archive.

The original “go-getter”. It’s not only her heart’s song, but her life story, “Let me be a blessing, Lord, while I have a chance, because I’ll never pass this way again.”
In making these histories available, our hope is that you are inspired to respond, to create. We invite folks to contribute continued conversations and/or creative works in all forms inspired by the histories. Our response creates a companion collection with pieces of various art mediums and expressions to the original oral history project. To participate in the companion project, And We Fly Away, contact us at info@1000gen.org
